To reinstall or not to reinstall.

John Williams is not destroyed, just extremely disorganized at the moment. I added some of the more frequently used shortcuts back to the desktop so that casual users can still play their random arcade games and hardcore user(s) can still play their (his) Tetris without too much searching around.

Two odd problems have arisen. The VNC server isn’t currently allowing me into the box from here. This is probably simple. Another weird problem is that TWO of my emulators are also gone.

You see, I keep all of my emulators in one organized folder. But whatever happened last night removed all traces of ePSXe (Playstation emulator) and FCEUltra (NES emulator). For NES we still have NESTER, which works ok, but I’d rather get FCE back up and running. That’s simple, too. ePSXe is a bit more difficult to setup properly, but still nothing too bad. It’s been a few months since I looked these things up, does anyone know if there’s a better PSX emulator out there now?

I’m giving serious thought to reinstalling XP from scratch, just so that everything looks good again. I’m giving not-so-serious thought to redoing the whole thing with Linux.

On other fronts, we have hardware for our A/V room computer. It has 4 USB ports, 2 on the front, so we could use it for emulation as well with my dual-analog gamepads and the still-in-planning modular IPAC controls. Still need to get Justin’s XBOX destroyed decked out.

Why do I always attack these nerd projects fifteen at a time?
