E2 Again: Pretentious and Useless

August 29th, 2003 · 2 Comments · Potpourri

This writeup on E2 about memorable lines from video games is OK, but it saddens me that it is closed. The quotations there are mostly mediocre, many of them from games with very little plot to make any of the lines worth more than words they are composed of and the minimal level of nerd nostalgia associated with them. Where are the great Sierra Adventures? Apogee platforms? Who can forget “You pick up the ladder and jam it into your pocket… Ouch” from Space Quest III or “Want some rye? ‘Course ya do!” from the inimitable Boos Miller (Return to Zork) or “Copper or tin, copper or tin, copper or tin for Widdershins!” from Conquest of Camelot?

Ok, so maybe very few people remember that last one. But the others are unforgettable. I could rattle off hundreds of lines far more memorable and amusing than those in the E2 writeup.

“Die, allied schweinhund! Eva… Auf wiedersehen.”
