I did a fresh reinstall of XP on Angus (my laptop) this weekend. It all went well, thanks to “Windows FD.” If you don’t know what that is, and need to reinstall XP, get a hold of me and I’ll show you the magic.
However, its automated install of Media Player 9 is fucked up. It won’t play use some very standard codecs or recognize some very standard containers. I tried reinstalling it to flush out the codecs, but it didn’t work. Anyone have any experience with fixing codecs that refuse to work even if install exlicitly?

Well, I do, but I don’t think it’d be much help since the same codecs are used in Linux, but for a very different purpose.
Lay down some love with the FD. I’m curious.
Do Media Player Classic and Winamp 5 exhibit the same behaviour?
Winamp5, yes. Haven’t tried classic. Which version is considered “classic”?
Schnazzy. I’m going to see if I can get it from the torrent.
If the torrent is dead, which is likely, just come to the LAN party Friday and I’ll burn ya a copy. :)
Hey.. you don’t know me. Just searched google for windows fd. Anywho, download mega codec pack (bottom of the page on http://www.k-litecodecpack.com ). That should fix everything. And I was wondering if you had Windows FD Pro or Deluxe. Because I’ve been downloading Deluxe for.. weeks and it’s at 18 percent. So if it’s deluxe, I’d like to figure out some way you could get it to me and we could trade something. You should see all the cool things I have :D.
