No More Mediocre Shit.

I had two minor epiphanies today. A) I have too much just-OK PC hardware strewn about my house, and could stand to replace it all. B) There are some really awesome deals on really cool hardware right now.

So, as soon as I have replaced my car with something a bit more reliable, I am going to sell off all four of my PCs, laptop included, and build three new machines. Murdoc will be a portable but powerful gaming/video-editing/desktop machine. John Williams, my Mame cabinet, will get all new guts, including close-to-the-best hardware for arcade AND next-gen PC gaming. He’ll also get a new name, since this will be a huge step up from his current Athlon 1.4Ghz configuration. And Bauer will be a very solid, also gameable, high-end fileserver. I’m even considering making him a RAID array.

And I’ll live without a laptop for a while. Not too long, but long enough to make a really good decision about what machine I want. I like Angus, but I really am not proud of making such a rash decision and dropping two grand on a Gateway last January.

Anybody interested in buying a Gateway 600 notebook? General specs:

2.4GHz P4
512M DDR RAM (I don’t recall if it’s PC2100 or PC2700)
60G Harddrive
CDR(W)/DVD-ROM Combo drive
Bigass LCD, 1280×1024 native resolution
ATi Radeon M9 (9200) with 64M of 400MHz video RAM
LAN, 56K faxmodem, 802.11b wireless
Docking station and spare powersupply
12V car power adapter
Extra battery (swaps out with floppy drive, which has been used once)
Optical audio output, 2usb 2.0, 1 firewire, NTSC video out
2 PC Card Slots (PCMCIA Type II)

If you’re interested, make me an offer. Otherwise, to eBay with it. I have all the original OS/Driver discs and the manual, which is crap.

I’ve also got various other PC gear up for grabs. I’ll organize it later, but basically I have two P4 2.4GHz procs/motherboards with all sorts of onboard shit and no AGP slot. Actually, one of them has an AGP slot, but for some reason it was placed on the mobo backward, and as far as I can tell it does not work at all.

I also have harddrives of various sizes in great number, from 10GB to 120GB, various sticks of PC100, PC133, PC2100, and PC2700 RAM, an AGP GeForce 4 MX 440, a PCI ATi Radeon 9X00 or some-such, and a whole buttload of other assorted old bits, mobos, and pieces. If ya see something you like, let me know. If you need something you don’t see here, ask and maybe I have it. I’ll make up a detailed list of everything I intend to get rid of in the next week or so.
