Must not… spend… money…

The stereo in my new car sounds great. However, the more I use it, the more I dislike the six-disc changer. Sure, it’s handy to have the ability to feed your dashboard 6 CDs, but I’m so used to only really needing one CD (full of encoded music) every few days. Also, most of the discs I’ve played in the thing so far have skipped like a mofo. I need to do some more testing to see if the fact that the CDs I’ve played have all been CDRs or RWs burned from 96kbps mp3s. I really don’t think the starting bitrate could be causing this, and I know it’s not necessarily the media brand, since I’ve used several. I seriously hope not to discover that my stereo does not handle ANY home-recorded media very well.

Of course, if my will doesn’t prove to be much stronger than I fear it is, it won’t matter at all soon. My car has a double din slot, so I’d really like to find a nice, powerful CD/MP3/Cassette receiver to replace this sucker. Anybody have experience with any of these?

Of course, if I’m going to do that, I could just go nuts and get a DVD player. SIKE.

Of course, what I really want is to replace my entire sound system with a PC and a 2x DIN sized touchscreen. But such a project would definitely take at least as long as did the MAMEcab, and probably cost as much or more.
