Saturday night, B and I jumped in the car and headed for POSVille, TX to see the greatest band in the history of Dallas. We met the POS himself at Clicks in Tyler around 9pm. As soon as we walked in, Chuck spotted us and said Hi. I bought Doug a bourbon and coke before he discovered that the band gets free drinks.
And, DAMN, drinks are cheap in Tyler. You’d think, being a dry area, the folks would jack up the prices, but jack they did not. 5 drinks for me, 1 for Doug, 2 for B, and 2 or 3 Cokes for Rob came to about $25 bucks.
The show was long, but fun. They did a few repeat songs after everyone from the Bennigan’s across the street came over. Apparently the Bennigan’s lost power, and these people were not yet finished getting drunk. It’s a good thing, too, because most of the yokels seemed to enjoy Honchie. Even a couple of real, live Mulletmen seemed to dig it.
There was this 80 year old guy named Cecil dancing with the chicks by the stage, and he even got up and danced with Doug for a while. Doug wore his hat. B and I took turns taking pictures and babysitting Chuck’s video camera. I wanted to stay and hang out after the show, but we were all tired and hungry.
Sunday morning, Rob and I got up and went shopping for breakfast supplies. We had biscuits, black raspberry preserves, eggs, bacon, sausage, chocolate milk, coffee, and orange juice. It just occurred to me this morning that I left without cleaning the pan in which I burned some sausage. Note to self: when using stove you’ve never used, keep heat very low until you know how hot it gets.
So we sat around until we could not tolerate Ben’s tardriffic nonsense anymore and headed out to Rillifane’s compound out in the semi-sticks. He gave us books and played some guitar for us. He tried to get me to play some, but the best I could squeak out was a Jimmy Buffett song. I really need to learn more sittin’-around-bullshittin’ songs.
I also need to hang out with Rillifane more often than once every year and a half.
After we checked all the potential kitten hideouts on and in my car, the three of us went to dinner. The trip back home wasn’t too bad. The Santa Fe makes roadtrips much more pleasant, but I made my mind ocne and for all to replace the damn stereo. Too much skipping.
